This hilarious study of a northern pub, its eccentric customers and its warring landlord and landlady won the Manchester Evening News Best New Play award in 1989 and has been in production somewhere around the world ever since.

"TWO is a series of short vignettes that skilfully combines pathos and humour," says Adrian Monahan.

"During the course of one evening in a particular pub, assorted customers pass in and out providing the audience with an insight into their various lives. Characters and stories include the old woman dropping in for a drink at the end of a grueling day, the touching story of the little old man who talks to his dead wife, and the hilarious Alice and Fred who've 'never been the same since Elvis died'. "

"One of my favourite characters", says Adrian, "is the ageing Lothario, Moth, who gets his comeuppance when he tries to woo every woman in the pub, witnessed by his long-suffering girlfriend."

"Meanwhile, the landlord and landlady are engaged in an emotionally charged power struggle which coincides with the anniversary of an event neither wishes to discuss."

"All the characters are linked by the bar, but also by their battles with love and conflicts between public facade and private emotion. This is an hilarious and extremely moving play guaranteed to keep its audience rapt until closing time!"

"The pace of the play is fast, with the two of us changing character in rapid succession as the 'night' progresses. it's a tremendous piece of work, hugely entertaining and at the same time spotlighting everyday dramas and tragedies that affect us all."
